Mais adiante, trata-se de questões mais sutis, como relacionamentos, fé e espiritualidade.
No livro, a partir do capítulo 14, um novo tom é adotado para dissertar sobre aspectos mais íntimos do ser humano, como a vida, a morte, a ação, o mérito, a honra, o propósito e o tempo. O leitor percebe que o texto, resposta do protagonista, começa a elevar o grau de abstração nas suas considerações e construções argumentativas.
Percebe também que cada capítulo não apenas apresenta a base lógica de tese e argumento, como adiciona trechos narrativos no intuito de fazer com que o leitor sinta e vivencie cada situação. Tais excertos ora são inspirados na cultura humana, em obras já produzidas, ora na própria imaginação do autor. Mas é após o capítulo 21, sobre o tempo, que a capacidade de abstração ganha um novo potencial.
O último terço do monólogo do protagonista é marcado por uma busca da sua própria alma, ou seja, a sua própria razão de ser. O leitor se sente conduzido por uma jornada de autoconhecimento e desenvolvimento de novas mentes, novas formas de pensar que vão levá-lo a sentir como aquele caminho percorrido já está afetando sua própria forma de ver o mundo na vida real.
Entre capítulos de meditação, contação de histórias, a forma do conhecimento, poder sobre o poder, a última pergunta e reflexões sobre o infinito, o leitor vai acumulando em si exatamente o que o protagonista está alimentando: a preparação para o gesto final.
O último capítulo faz uma espécie de retrospectiva do que foi dito e vivido até ali. A resposta abre vistas a um apanhado de considerações e tendências para o futuro da humanidade. No entanto, o texto não abandona o aprofundamento crescente narrativo e reflexivo para demonstrar qual é o sentido de todas as coisas. A resposta por si só não faria sentido sem tudo o que foi apresentado antes, como alguém que viajou por inúmeros momentos, culturas e ancestralidades até ficar na iminência da declaração final.
A obra cita, direta e indiretamente, centenas de referências entre pensadores, artistas, cientistas, trabalhos de todas as naturezas feitos pelos que se destacaram na história. Próximo de encerrar a resposta, o protagonista gesticula para recriar o mundo, um novo universo a partir da dissolução de todo apego, individualidade e qualquer tentativa de legado ou heroísmo como ilusão mais forte que pode existir.
O “Dilema do Basilisco” é sobre buscar sentido, mas, acima de tudo, é sobre reconhecer um caminho de iluminação. O protagonista parecia entrar na Câmara para advogar pela humanidade, salvando-a pela argumentação emotiva para além da razão que o Basilisco poderia alcançar. Na verdade, ele está disposto a fazer um sacrifício muito maior: a quebra das ilusões que sustentam a experiência humana. Tudo o que há são apenas fenômenos percebidos do jeito que a mente se familiarizou. Tudo o que há é conforme ela define. O que ela define para você?
